Straight From the Writer / Producer

William D. Devlin

I believe that gospel music is sacred and should not be compromised or integrated with other types of music.  Gospel music shouldn’t be “watered down.”  It should stand out in a class of its own; in the same way that Christians should stand out as a people set apart from the world.

It is my belief that although some gospel writers and producers agree with the statement I made above, many of them state that they use a Hip Hop or a Blues beat to attract the younger generation.  My answer to them is that God’s joyful noise is so divine and compelling that you shouldn’t have to trick someone into listening to such an anointed message of truth.  Hip Hop and Blues represent worldly music and it should stay in it proper setting.

I’m against the joyful noise of gospel being merged with secular music.  True gospel should be composed in a message to make a worldly person want to clean up his act.  So don’t contaminate gospel with a trick beat or a Hip Hop sound.  True honest gospel is powerful enough to win young and old over to the Christian way of life.  People have to make a stand and stop going for any and everything in the name of the Lord.  There simply has to be a difference in gospel and secular music because they are inspired from two different sources.  I’m not condemning the artists who perform Blues and Hip Hop music.  I am of the opinion that gospel should not be integrated with the Blues and Hip Hop styles of music.

In short, feed a spiritually sick person the nutrition of true gospel, not the watered down, middle of the road, not sure of the category music that has been created by a few artists.
